Expedition Open Science Land: A Travel Guide for Business Researchers
A peer-to-peer travel guide specifically for research in business administration, designed to inspire, guide and encourage participation. That is the goal of the Expedition to Open Science Land. What are the special features of this new publication?
by Birgit Fingerle (ZBW)

In January 2026, the publication “Expedition Open Science Land: A Travel Guide for Business Research” was released. It uses the metaphor of a journey to classify steps, decisions and typical stumbling blocks throughout the research process. The result is a kind of travel guide that seeks to inspire, orientate and encourage participation. Rather than offering a precise cartography of the “Open Science landscape”, the guide deliberately abstracts and exaggerates, allowing the content to be approached with a sense of humour.
The authors of the book (Marko Sarstedt, Doreen Siegfried (ZBW), Meikel Neumann, Susanne J. Adler, Oliver Genschow und Monika Imschloss) form an interdisciplinary group of scientists from the fields of business administration and psychology, as well as science communicators. They are united by the conviction that science should be transparent, replicable and open.

Accompanying materials and ordering options
Alongside the book, the website provides further information, practical recommendations, as well as materials and downloads to support business administration researchers in implementing Open Science in their day-to-day research practice. The complete guide is available for download in both German and English at expedition-open-science.org. In addition, a printed German version can be ordered, for example for display in libraries or use in teaching contexts.
