The transdisciplinary Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0 examines the effects of Science 2.0 on science and society. These efforts focus on the research priorities “new working habits”, “technological development” and “user behaviour research”. Inextricably linked with Science 2.0 are the current developments with respect to the opening of the whole scientific process or parts of it (“Open Science”). With its activities, the research oriented alliance – a combination of infrastructure facilities and research institutes of different disciplines which is unique in Europe – builds up a network of those stakeholders which are decisively influenced by Science 2.0. The overarching aim is to establish Science 2.0 as new and transdisciplinary research discipline in the scientific community. To achieve this aim the alliance at the present stage advises political decision makers and research funding bodies on national and international level with respect to the definition and the establishment of research funding programmes on Science 2.0 and Open Science as well as on related topics.

The Research Alliance is incorporated in the Leibniz Association and currently advanced by 36 association partners from different disciplines. It consists of Leibniz institutions as well as university and non-university research institutes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The coordinating entity of the Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0 is ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics.
